Black Skeptics Group Los Angeles advances Black skepticism, freethought, atheism, agnosticism, and secular humanism through community outreach, education, and social justice work in the Los Angeles area. Its mission joins worldview and civic engagement: the group takes a secular humanist approach to social justice and connects that approach to practical programs for youth, families, and community audiences.
Education is a central part of its work. Black Skeptics Group Los Angeles awards scholarships to qualified youth entering college and sponsors and guides community-based educational programs. A clear example is its 2026 First in the Family Humanist Scholarships, with applications opened for $5,000 awards and framed around support for African American students. The organization also highlights youth-centered initiatives such as the Future of Feminism Youth Leadership Conference, scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica, and the Women’s Leadership Project-sponsored Black LGBTQIA+ Youth Institute in 2025.
