Epilepsy Foundation New England serves people and families affected by epilepsy across New England through a broad mix of education, support, resource navigation, and financial assistance. Its program structure spans a Knowledge Center with seizure education and safety information, support groups, educational programs, resource rooms at major medical centers, a Resource & Support Center, emergency aid resources, and regional services in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The organization also operates initiatives for specific audiences, including Parents & Families, Kids Connect, the Young Leaders Network, veterans, and people seeking help managing epilepsy.
A clear example of its direct aid work is the Joseph's Hope Scholarship Program, which supports people living with epilepsy who are pursuing post-secondary education or vocational training. Epilepsy Foundation New England grants at least four $4,000 scholarships each year. The fund is supported in large part by Frank and Vicky Salituro in memory of their son Joseph, who died from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) in 2011 at age 27. The organization also awards the Matthew Siravo Memorial Scholarship for college-bound high school seniors in Rhode Island who have been diagnosed with epilepsy.
