East Bay Community Foundation advances an inclusive, fair, and just East Bay through philanthropy, grantmaking, scholarships, donor engagement, and investment strategies rooted in racial justice. Its work spans Alameda and Contra Costa Counties and is organized across four core program strategies: Arts and Culture for Social and Racial Justice, Capacity Building with a Racial Equity Lens, Community Organizing, Power Building, and Movement Building, and Fostering Inclusive Economic Models. The foundation also operates related initiatives and funds including Belonging In Oakland: A Just City Cultural Fund, the East Bay Fund for Artists, and the Oakland Small Business Resiliency Fund. Education support is a significant part of the foundation’s work. East Bay Community Foundation’s Scholarships Program supports East Bay children and youth through funds established for every level of study, from preschool to postgraduate education. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, housing, books, supplies, and other educational fees, with awards typically paid directly to the institution providing instruction. The foundation administers 11 active scholarship funds with assets totaling more than $2.3 million, and since 2002 it has helped award over $2 million in scholarships.
